To duplicate an automation Flow in Papo (https://papo.global/) and create a new version, go to the Flows module, find the original flow, and use the duplicate function. The copy preserves all nodes, connections, and settings, allowing you to adjust only what is needed for a new scenario — such as a different campaign, a lead segment, or a service channel.
Summary: creating from scratch vs. duplicating a Flow
| Method | Effort | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Create a Flow from scratch | High — you need to build the entire structure of nodes, conditions, and actions | Completely new flows with no similarity to existing ones |
| Duplicate an existing Flow | Low — the structure is copied and you only adjust what changes | Variations of the same journey (e.g., different products, audiences, or channels) |
How Flow duplication works
Duplication creates an independent copy of the selected Flow. The new flow inherits all components from the original — action nodes, conditions, messages, tags, and branches — but it does not carry enrolled contacts or execution history. From the copy, you can rename, edit, or remove any element without affecting the source Flow.
This feature is especially useful when you already have a validated automation and need to replicate it for another context. For example, a welcome Flow for Instagram leads can be duplicated and adapted for WhatsApp leads, changing only the initial message and the tag applied.
Step by step to duplicate a Flow
-
Go to the Flows module
In the Papo dashboard side menu, click Flows / Chatbot. This is the hub where all your visual automations are listed. -
Find the Flow you want to duplicate
In the Flows list, find the flow that will serve as a template. You can use the search or available filters to speed up finding it. -
Start the duplication
Select the duplicate action associated with the Flow. The platform will immediately create a copy, usually with the original name plus a suffix such as “(copy)”. -
Rename the new Flow
Click the copy’s name and set a title that reflects the new purpose. A clear name helps the team quickly identify the automation’s purpose (e.g., “Instagram Welcome” vs. “WhatsApp Welcome”). -
Edit the nodes as needed
Open the duplicated Flow’s visual editor and make adjustments:- Change message texts to suit the new audience or channel.
- Modify conditions (e.g., expected responses, checked tags).
- Replace actions such as “Add tag” or “Update contact” with the correct values for the new scenario.
- Remove or add nodes to include specific steps of the new journey.
-
Activate the Flow
After reviewing the changes, save and activate the flow. Only Flows with Active status can receive and process contacts.
Who Flow duplication is recommended for
- Marketing and sales teams managing multiple campaigns with similar structures (e.g., product launches, seasonal promotions).
- Multichannel operations that want to replicate a successful journey across different channels (WhatsApp, Instagram, email) with minor adaptations.
- Agencies and partners that set up automations for multiple clients and need to reuse validated flows as a starting point.
- Any team that wants to test variations of a Flow without risking breaking the original version in production.
Frequently asked questions
Does duplication also copy already enrolled contacts?
No. The duplicated Flow is created with no enrolled contacts. You will need to enroll the desired contacts manually, in bulk, or via another automation.
Can I duplicate a Flow that is inactive?
Yes. Duplication works regardless of the original Flow’s status. You can duplicate both active and inactive flows.
Do changes I make to the original Flow affect the copy?
No. After duplication, the two Flows are completely independent. Any edit to one is not reflected in the other.
Can I duplicate the same Flow multiple times?
Yes. You can generate as many copies as you want, as long as you respect your plan’s Flow limit. Each duplication counts as a new Flow in your account.
What happens to webhooks or integrations configured in the original Flow?
Webhook settings and actions that call external services are copied along with the nodes. However, it is recommended to review the URLs and parameters in the duplicated Flow to ensure they point to the correct endpoints for the new scenario.
Does duplication consume any account limit?
The duplication action itself has no additional cost, but the created Flow takes up a slot in your plan’s Flow limit. Check the amount available in your account.
